 Spring 2014:

Old man Rio died peacefully in his sleep and we miss him dearly. Rio was a gentle giant, and an amazingly accomplished buck. He gave us many wonderful offspring that are both productive and stylish. He has been a solid cornerstone of our breeding program and his legacy will live on through his progeny.

Summer 2013 update:

Rio is 8 years old now and starting to slow down.  He now lives in his own special pen since we don't want him to have to compete with the other bucks for food or status.  He doesn't mind, though, especially since his little son, Boe, has a small gate between pens and can come hang out with his wonderful dad.  The barn cat also curls up with Rio.  They seem to really enjoy each other's company.

 Summer 2012 update:

Several of Rio's full sisters have earned their permanent grand champion titles! I guess good looks just run in this family.  We sure do enjoy our Rio daughters.  Hopefully he'll give us a lovely son next year to work for us here at BMR.

 Summer 2011 update:

Rio is a quiet, laid back boy.  So laid back that he sometimes just blends into the background of the buck pen, letting the other guys get all the attention.  But when he does want to get his head scratched or back rubbed he will amble over.  Rio really is a sweet guy that produces many great kids for us.  His daughters are super productive, lovely to look at, and just as sweet as their dad.  Good work, Rio!

 Summer 2010 update:

Rio is a huge fella and he can look fairly intimating to people that don't know him.  They are always surprised when he ambles over to get his head scratched.  He loves attention and is a very mild mannered fella.  We just love this guy and we love the offspring that he sires. Congratulations to Rio for earning his Superior Genetics title AND Elite Sire status this year.  Congratulations to Rio's full sister, SGCH Reuel Rhesa's JJ Jael, for earning her permanent Grand Championship this year!

 Summer 2009 update:

As nice as Rio is, his only real job here is to make productive and beautiful offspring.  And Rio does just that.  Two of his daughters have scored as Excellent on Linear Appraisal and another one is among our very best milk producers.  They are all lovely and productive girls.

 July 2008 update:

Rio just keeps getting better and better.  He is an eye-catching fella with a sweet disposition.  We are thrilled to have Rio working here for us and really love the wonderful kids that he sires.

 July 2007 update:

Yup, Rio is a charmer.  He flirts with the girls and never gets bossy or demanding.  Even with his people he is gentle and calm, loving attention but not insisting on it.  He impressed the appraiser this spring and got a great score.  He made Excellent in all the structural categories with the exception on getting Very Good on Head.  So... personality, attitude, and conformation all rolled together in one buck – that’s a pretty great package!  Rio is definitely one Grande guy!  Congrats to his mom, Rhesa, for her most recent Grand Champion win.  Rio's full sister, Reuel Rhesa's JJ Raya, scored  87 VEEV  as a yearling and 91 EEEE at three years old.  Rio's full sister, Reuel Rhesa's JJ Reva, became a permanent champion this year!

July 2006 update:

This guy is a real charmer.  He’s a yearling now and has lost most of his baby cuteness, but he is still a very handsome fella and quite a gentleman.  Courteous, friendly, and loving, with lots of pizzazz.  We were surprised last year that he was so kind and easygoing with his girls.  He courted them and seemed to ask permission as each step of the courtship proceeded.  Rio is a real class act – I guess we could say that he’s the “Rio Thing”!

More background on Rio (2005)

Rio is awesome! Not only is he long and level and wonderfully proportioned, but he has a real charisma about him. A “hey, look at me” presence but with a shy friendliness that just makes your heart melt. He is calm and gentle. Rio was flown down from Reuel Dairy Goats in Washington state and we are very excited to have him join our herd.
